Scientists bemoan the fact that lay persons anthropomorphize animals. Yet somehow it seems arrogant to assume humans are the only beings capable of rational thought and genuine emotion. This beluga at the Vancouver Aquarium, 1 day before an Earthwatch expedition on grey whales, looked so full of peace and good will that I always think of this image as "spiritual beluga".
