HARKERS ISLAND, NC - July 30, 2011. This annual traffic jam at the bridge is always a spectacle. Sailors competing in the annual round-the-island race in the Harkers Island Regatta must circumnavigate the island in either direction. The rules for this race allow for paddling to help break through the pack and fight the current.
